There is an impressive range of Worms WMD weapons, including returning favorites, fresh explosives, and brand new craftable weapons. Here, we give details, including maximum damage and vulnerabilities. But, the best way to find out how each works is to try blasting the crap out of your mates.
Worms was better in 2D. And, the first generation was best, before the introduction of too many overpowered weapons. For me, at least, there is no greater pleasure than landing a well placed grenade you’ve ricocheted off a wall, or perfectly curving a bazooka over a building using nothing but wind and mad skills.
I will concede that I like the explosiveness and wild unpredictability of the banana bomb and the bragging rights that come with a sheep kill. But,
Here we look at Worms WMD weapons, including a list with instructions and damage type.
Back To Its Best
Worms WMD, which is currently available on Xbox Game Pass, took the series back to its 2D roots. Sure, there are some hugely explosive weapons. There are also mechs, gun emplacements, and vehicles. Bot none of these are especially more powerful than your own personal assortment of weapons, with a few exceptions.
What’s more, you can turn them off when setting a new game up. However, even as an old school Worms lover, some of the new additions add enough fun and purpose that I welcome them.
Worms W.M.D. Weapons
There is a selection of more than 80 Worms WMD weapons, mounted weapons, mechs, and vehicles. Some of them will be available from the start in most standard game types. Some will become available as the game progresses as new weapons are unlocked every few turns. A large number, however, can only be crafted.
Worms WMD Weapon Crafting
Crafting Worms WMD weapons allows players access to weapons that aren’t found in crates or in the starter arsenal. It also gives you something to do on your opponent’s turn.
Every craftable weapon is made up of a selection of materials including Sticky Donkey Paste, Banana Bomb Seeds, and several others. These materials can be collected from materials crates that drop randomly during the game.
You also have the ability to deconstruct weapons that are unlocked in your arsenal already. You will need fairly nimble fingers in some game types. If you start crafting or deconstructing during your own go, it won’t finish until the end of your go, so the weapon or materials will not be available until your next turn.
For cluster weapons and weapons with multiple shots, we have listed the maximum damage from each cluster or projectile.
Some of the standard air strikes have low damage. However, they do have a large spread, don’t require targeting skills, and they can cause mayhem if you hit mines and other environmental objects. This is especially true of variants like the carpet bomb.
|Air Strike||Air Strike||30||N||Y|
|Angry Concrete Donkey||Air Strike||80||N||N|
|Bunker Buster||Air Strike||30||N||N|
|Concrete Donkey||Air Strike||80||N||N|
|Demon Strike||Air Strike||50||N||Y|
|Mega Bunker Buster||Air Strike||60||N||Y|
|Mike’s Carpet Bomb||Air Strike||75||Y||N|
|Mine Strike||Air Strike||50||N||Y|
|O.M.G. Strike||Air Strike||80||N||N|
|Stinking Carpet Bomb||Air Strike||30||N||Y|
|Tri Bunker Buster||Air Strike||30||N||Y|
Explosives are typically deployed from close range and give the player a couple of seconds to retreat, before they explode.
- A ming vase is best dropped from a ninja rope.
- A vehicle mine will only detonate if a vehicle passes over it.
Firearms are usually used from medium range. With the exception of the triple barrel and double barrel shotgun, they don’t do a lot of damage. They can be very effective when used to fire worms off ledges, into water, or onto mines. They can also be used to blow up crates and barrels.
|Triple Barrel Shotgun||Firearm||20||N||N|
- The training shotgun does less damage but it includes a laser sight making long shots easier.
There’s not much as satisfying as finishing a dying worm off with a punch. Or, better still, shoving them off a ledge with the poke. It’s insulting, it’s infuriating, it’s incredible entertaining!
- The furious prod pushes twice as far as the standard prod.
- The two-handed prod enables a second prod, as long as it is within the time limit.
- Kamikaze is included because it is kind of melee.
Missiles can do a lot of damage with a full face hit. They are also useful for firing worms off mountains. Homing missiles don’t require much in the way of aiming skill, but you do need to ensure that the trajectory of the missile misses buildings and land.
|Homing Clustile||Missile||30 (+10/cluster)||Y||Y|
- The bazooka pie is the same as the bazooka except that it creates a puddle of fire when it explodes.
- The homing clustile is fired like a homing missile but it explodes on impact, generating three large clusters.
The sheep is a favorite with generations of Worms players. It runs in the direction released and attempts to jump over obstacles. It turns around and runs back if it runs into a wall, which can be embarrassing. The popularity of the sheep is such that there are several iterations of this weapon.
|Agile Old Woman||Sheep||75||N||N|
|Super Flatulence Sheep||Sheep||50||N||N|
- We are aware that old women shouldn’t be treated as sheep, and deserve equality. But they operate in a similar way, and the sheep came first.
- With sheep on a rope, you start by firing a ninja rope into the scenery, and can then control the sheep the same way you would control a worm.
The grenades are among the most versatile and satisfying weapons in the game. What it lacks in damage, it makes up for in finesse. There are many grenade like weapons in Worms WMD.
|Cluster Bomb Mk2||Thrown||20 (+8/cluster)||N||Y|
|Delayed Cluster||Thrown||20 (+10/cluster)||N||Y|
|Dodgy Phone Battery||Thrown||10||N||Y|
|Holy Hand Grenade||Thrown||100||N||Y|
|Holy Mine Grenade||Thrown||40||N||Y|
|Super Banana Bomb||Thrown||75||Y||N|
- The gas grenade does not cause any damage when it explodes, but poisons worms in the vicinity.
- The unwanted present goes off between 2 and 5 turns after being thrown. It does 75 damage if it explodes after a single turn, and an additional 5 points damage for every extra turn.
- The dodgy phone battery lets out an electric ark which passes to other worms, vehicles, and other objects.
Worms WMD Weapons
There is a massive selection of weapons in Worms WMD (trailer on YouTube). You will come across vehicles and mechs. These do not always perform better than standard weapons. Being inside a vehicle does not offer any additional defense. Vehicles can be destroyed, and the resulting explosion causes damage. The key to success in any Worms game is to manage your weapons carefully. Victory can often come down to who has an airstrike and who doesn’t.
