In Fallout 76 gears are used for turrets, weapon mods, and for power armor. There are more challenging materials to find, but there will be times when you’re hunting for gear farming locations. The guide below gives details of junk items that can be scrapped to yield gears and where to find them.
Loose screws can be found around Appalachia. You can also buy bulk screws from vendors, as well as junk items that contain them. However, the easiest technique to gather this useful resource is to scavenge junk items that can be scrapped for gears.
Fallout 76 Gear Junk Items
There is a good range of items that contain gears in Fallout 76: many of which are found in buildings all over the place. Here are the items you should keep an eye out for:
|Gold Pocket Watch||1|
|Miner Suit Scrap||1|
|Giddyup Buttercup Back Legs||2|
|Giddyup Buttercup Front Legs||2|
|Office Desk Fan||2|
|Restored Desk Fan||2|
|Silver Pocket Watch||2|
|Chez Vivi Typewriter||5|
You will find items like adjustable wrenches and desk fans all over the place. If you’re passing a building and there’s a door you can enter, take a look. If there’s a garage or a workshop, take a look. Desk fans are actually quite handy because you can usually see them spinning even if you’re quickly trying to scout a room.
Where To Farm Gears In Fallout 76
There’s actually a few tactics that can provide an effective method of farming gears. Mole Miner Suit Scrap is obviously obtained from mole miners. If you’re a bit further on in the game, hunting down these potentially tricky customers can yield a lot of what you’re looking for.
Head to Blackwater Mine. Outside the mine, you will find a number of the Mole Miners. Kill them, loot their suits and scrap them down for junk. Swap server, or just wait a while before heading back.
We also found that the village of Welch was home to quite a pack of Mole Miners. As we headed a little further out, we also came across a Deathclaw which dropped gears as well. You may not want to intentionally pick a fight with a Deathclaw, just for some gears, but if you are that way inclined, there’s always Deathclaw Island too.
Typewriters offer a couple of gears each and it stands to reason that these are most commonly found in offices. Try Becker Farm which is local when you start the game. You can also head to Gorge Junkyard and Mountainside Bed and Breakfast.
Giddyup Buttercup toys, including their leg components, are another great item when farming Fallout 76 gears. Try Vault-Tec University and Whitespring Resort for these items.
Finally, desk fans are our favourite. They are in plentiful supply and can be found in a lost of buildings, settlements, and generally all over the place. They are especially prevalent in Whitesprings Bunker, which is essentially a part of Whitespring Resort, and also in Sugar Grove.
Tag For Search
At this point in the guides, we always recommend that you use the Tag For Search feature. This is a great little feature available to everyone. You can tag resources like gears so that items containing this resource are highlighted with a little magnifying glass next to their name. It won’t increase the likelihood of finding the item, but it will make it easier to spot them.
Hopefully, this should make it a little easier to find gears so that you can upgrade your CAMP and your power armor. Check out some of our other Fallout 76 guides to find other materials, weapons, and resources.
